Scania V8 Engines Power Viking 48C: Sea Trial Results and Fuel Efficiency

Sea Trials of the MACK ATTACK: Scania V8 Engines Showcase Power and Efficiency

In the early summer heat of June, the MACK ATTACK—a sleek Viking 48 Convertible powered by twin Scania 1,150 HP DI16-liter V8 engines—glided into the water for its sea trials. Anticipation buzzed in the air. This was no ordinary launch; commissioned by Mack Boring & Parts Co., the MACK ATTACK was a showcase of Scania’s most powerful, pleasure craft-certified V8 engines.

As the engines roared to life, the Scania-powered Viking 48C, one of the largest boats in its class, surged onto plane with ease. For Patrick McGovern, CEO and President of Mack Boring, it was a defining moment.

“We’ve been thrilled with the performance of these 1,150 HP Scania engines in our demo,” McGovern remarked. “The ability of the Scania engines to accelerate onto plane quickly has exceeded expectations.”

Though Viking Yachts and Mack Boring had collaborated before, this project marked a new milestone. Mark Waldron, Viking’s Vice President of Sales, was just as eager.

“We’ve seen success with the Scania 900 in our 46 Billfish, and the performance of these 1,150s in our 48 has been impressive,” Waldron said.

For Scania USA, the sea trials of the MACK ATTACK were more than just a test—they were a proving ground. Art Schuchert, Scania’s Sales and Marketing Director, knew that this was their chance to show the world what these engines were truly capable of.

“We’ve installed our recreational engines in many yachts worldwide, but testing them on an offshore tournament fishing boat like the MACK ATTACK is next-level,” Schuchert said. “With an industry-leading power-to-weight ratio and unmatched fuel efficiency, these engines speak for themselves.”

As the MACK ATTACK carved through the water, and the engines pushed to their limits, the performance results rolled in. Measured by Mack Boring & Parts Co., the data told the story: the Scania engines delivered effortless acceleration, impressive cruising speeds, and remarkable fuel efficiency.
