Unveiling the All-New Viking 74: Speed and Luxury and Sportfishing

The Viking 74 is a showcase of over 60 years of boatbuilding experience, destined to be the top luxury sportfishing yacht between 70 and 80 feet.

On the heels of the 82 Convertible’s debut, Viking Yacht Company presents its second-generation Viking 74, a tournament champion designed for greatness.

Viking’s Legacy of Innovation

“When you build a better boat every day, there’s no resting,” says Viking President Pat Healey. “We’re constantly designing and refining to develop new models for our owners.” The 74 Convertible follows the iconic Viking 72 – a 45-knot speedster with 75 hulls built. The goal was to build a 74-footer with similar top-end and cruising speeds, and the team delivered.

Advanced Design and Engineering

“The 72 was our fastest boat, and the 74 will be the next speed king,” says Viking Design Manager David Wilson. The team used Computational Fluid Dynamics software to refine performance, with aggressive strakes and chines for spray deflection and lift. Hull design improvements and more horsepower (2600HP MTUs) elevate the 74’s performance. It’s also available with the Advanced Viking Propulsion System, minimizing hydrodynamic resistance.

Materials and Construction

The 74 features resin-infused hulls, tankage, and bulkheads, optimizing strength and weight. Advanced materials like carbon fiber and specific interior woods improve build quality, while a vinylester/epoxy resin offers blister protection.

Cockpit and Flybridge Features

The 216-square-foot cockpit offers full-length insulated in-deck fish boxes, a walkthrough transom door, and Seakeeper access. Storage is abundant, with a tackle cabinet, freezer boxes, and mezzanine seating. The flybridge includes a platform helm for excellent visibility, with recessed multifunction displays, a clean layout, and helm chairs. Air conditioning and other amenities, like dual freezers and seating lounges, enhance comfort.

Luxurious Salon and Galley

The salon features a large sofa with rod storage, a walnut hi-lo table, and an entertainment center with a hidden HDTV. The galley offers two configurations – a U-shaped layout or an open island counter. Both feature Sub-Zero refrigerators, a Miele cooktop, and ample storage. Forward, a pantry adds extra space.

Accommodations for Comfort

The 74 offers four staterooms, each with ensuite heads. A dedicated rod and tackle room on the port side can be customized. The crew quarters are accessible through a separate staircase, and the master stateroom boasts a king walkaround bed, hanging closets, and space for a 65-inch HD TV. Options for crossover arrangements and additional berths are available to accommodate up to 11 people.

Engineroom and Mechanicals

The engineroom is engineered for efficiency, with chilled water air conditioning, fire suppression systems, and the capability for omnidirectional sonar. SeaStrong seal-less pumps reduce complexity and improve reliability. The CLEARLINE System prevents marine growth in seawater plumbing, enhancing durability.

Viking’s Atlantic Marine Electronics and Palm Beach Towers offer a range of customizations for communication, navigation, and entertainment systems, as well as a custom tuna tower. Hull No. 1, set to debut at the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, will feature twin 2635MHP MTU engines. Other engine options include MTU, MAN, and Caterpillar, with the 74 available as an Enclosed or Sky Bridge model.
