A New Generation of Luxury, Performance, and Innovation

Fort Lauderdale, Florida – October 29, 2025 — Viking Yachts introduced the all-new 50 Convertible, the third generation of this iconic model, during the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The latest 50 continues Viking’s long-standing pursuit of building luxury sportfishing yachts that deliver real-world performance offshore.

A Proven Lineage, Refined Again

The 50 Convertible carries a proud history. Across two previous generations, Viking delivered 184 boats, firmly establishing the model as a cornerstone of the brand’s success. First introduced in the 1990s, the original 50 became one of Viking’s most successful builds, with 142 boats delivered during a challenging era that included the Luxury Tax. The second generation followed in 2008, adding 42 more boats to the lineage.

A 2008 review of the 50 Convertible in Power & Motoryacht described the boat as “advanced in terms of design, power, space utilization, and ride… she provides the one thing Viking has offered consistently for more than 44 years: an agile, speedy, and stable platform for going far and fishing deep.”

That description still holds true today.

“We’re constantly innovating—designing, refining, and engineering to improve upon what we’ve done,” said Pat Healey, President and CEO of Viking Yachts. “We’ve been at the top of this market for decades. The Viking 50 is the result of all its predecessors.”

Design and Construction

The 50 Convertible shares many design cues with Viking’s latest flagship models, including a flush foredeck for improved safety, a modified upper chine and aggressive strakes for a dry, stable ride, and recessed salon windows with signature radiused perimeters. Subtle feature lines along the hull and deckhouse give the boat a powerful, modern profile.

Construction is equally advanced. The hull, tankage, and structural bulkheads are resin-infused to optimize strength while reducing weight. Light Resin Transfer Molding and carbon-fiber reinforcements further enhance structural integrity. The result is a boat built for durability, performance, and Viking’s trademark fit and finish.

Flybridge and Cockpit

The flybridge is centered around a streamlined, walk-around console with a recessed black acrylic dash housing twin 22-inch multifunction displays. A forward lounge with integrated armrests, drink holders, and storage is complemented by port and starboard bench seating. A refrigerated drink box sits conveniently to starboard of the helm.

Aft, the 131-square-foot cockpit is designed for both serious fishing and relaxed cruising. Features include refrigerated in-deck fishboxes, a livewell/fishbox in the transom, flush-mounted rod holders, and a Seakeeper-ready lazarette. Mezzanine seating provides tackle and cooler storage, along with a freezer beneath the lounge. A transom door with lift gate, recessed cleats, and generous toe-kick space round out a cockpit built to fish.

Interior Accommodations

Inside, the salon is bright and open, finished in horizontal-grain walnut, available in high-gloss or satin. An L-shaped lounge wraps around a walnut cocktail table to port, while a raised dinette to starboard offers panoramic views and rod storage below. A 43-inch HD TV is mounted forward for easy viewing.

The galley features a peninsula-style countertop with a standard icemaker, stainless steel sink, four-burner Miele cooktop, microwave/convection oven, and undercounter refrigerator and freezer drawers. LED lighting and abundant cabinetry add both function and polish.

Below, the layout includes three staterooms and two full heads. The master stateroom features a queen walkaround berth, 32-inch HD TV, and private ensuite head. The forward guest stateroom can be configured with a queen berth or a crossover double/single arrangement, while the starboard guest stateroom offers upper and lower bunks with shared access to the second head.

Performance and Engineering

Powered by MAN V8 1200 MHP engines, the Viking 50 delivers strong speed, range, and handling. Optimus electronic power steering provides precise control whether maneuvering in tight quarters or running offshore. The optimized length-to-beam ratio—refined through owner feedback and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) modeling—produces a soft, dry ride in challenging conditions.

Viking’s attention to engineering detail is evident throughout the engineroom, from resin-infused stringers with aluminum reinforcements to clean component installations and excellent systems access. A 21.5kW generator supports onboard systems, with dedicated pumps for seawater-fed equipment. Optional features include ElectroSea Clearline systems, omni-directional sonar, and onboard ice and water makers.

Viking subsidiaries Atlantic Marine Electronics and Palm Beach Towers are available to outfit the 50 with custom electronics, entertainment systems, and tournament-ready towers.
