When you think Rybovich, you likely envision luxury, craftsmanship and timeless design. You probably also think of boats north of 65 feet. Perhaps that’s what makes Rybovich’s latest splash—the 42 Scout—such an interesting build. The boat marks the famed builder’s first return to the 40-foot class in more than two decades.

“People sometimes think we only build big boats,” says Dusty Rybovich. “But we’ll build anything the customer wants. We’re doing a 47 next year.”

The 42 Scout is everything you imagine in a Rybovich, simply delivered in a smaller package. Clean, classic and entirely custom, every element is touched by nuance and detail. The teak work—including the cockpit, the covering boards and the helm station—is precise and deliberate. The finish work and joints are remarkably clean.

“This boat is a yacht tender. The owners are taking delivery of a new Feadship. It will join the yacht in New England this summer. The program will be summers in New England and winters in the Bahamas.”

“This is the first day boat we’ve built in a long time. It’s such a cool thing. I hope it’s a trend that continues,” says Rybovich. “For about the same money as a 50-something center console with a room you have to duck to get into, you could build a 40-something inboard that you could live on.”

Balance of Comfort, Style and Performance

The boat is well outfitted for both fishing and comfort. The express-style layout is versatile. Entering the salon, you pass a rear-facing mezzanine that converts into a full sun lounge. Beneath the port mezzanine is an ice maker ready for entertaining.

Forward of the mezzanine lies the lower helm. It features two flush-mounted Garmin multifunction displays along with joystick and engine controls. An 11 kW Kohler generator powers onboard systems, while a Seakeeper provides stabilization.

Power comes from twin Volvo D11 IPS950s paired with IPS pod drives. The Scout cruises at 30 knots at 2,000 rpm, burning 46 gallons per hour per side at 70 percent load. Wide-open throttle produces 43.5 knots at 2,550 rpm.

The galley features a booth-style dinette paired with a bench. A Wolf cooktop, deep sink and ample counter space make the boat capable of occasional overnight use. Twin Sub-Zero slide-out refrigerators add even more storage capacity.

Custom Craftsmanship in Every Detail

Belowdecks, the Scout features a one-head, single-stateroom layout. The head includes a full standup shower and large vanity. The stateroom is equipped with bunks and storage. Two bunks to port and a third to starboard highlight the layout’s flexibility and its ability to support a range of uses.

Purpose-built for a specific mission, it’s easy to imagine the Scout running between New England and the Bahamas. The form, the function and its timeless lines all reflect true custom craftsmanship.
