The crew aboard Dixie, a 65-foot Donzi-Roscioli, has enjoyed an impressive summer of billfishing out of San Jose del Cabo, Mexico, recording two Grand Slams in less than a month.
Capt. Mitch Pierson and the Zierfuss family and friends recorded their first Grand Slam on July 10, 2026, followed by another on August 3. Fishing the Gordo Bank, roughly 17 miles from Los Cabos Marina, the trips featured flat-calm conditions and a group of young anglers—many of whom were catching their first marlin or billfish.
Plenty of Billfish Action
Across six total days of fishing, Dixie saw 20 blue marlin, generated 16 bites and released 12 blues. The crew also recorded 25 sailfish bites, releasing 18, while going two-for-two on striped marlin.
Beyond the numbers, the fishing provided plenty of memorable moments for the Zierfuss family and their friends, particularly with the kids getting an opportunity to experience some of Mexico’s world-class billfishing firsthand.
With two Grand Slams already in the books, Dixie will turn its attention toward the upcoming Magdalena Bay season, which gets underway in early October.
