Repowered: MTU M96L 16V2000
In February 2020, our repower team of mechanics, special projects technicians, and craftsmen began the process of removing the existing MTU M96L 16V2000 engines from the Smooth Move, a 74’ Spencer, and replacing them with brand-new updated engines. Our team protected the vessel and then cut out the aft salon bulkhead and salon floor to gain access to the engine room. After removing and replacing the engines, they replaced the subfloor in the salon and installed newly refinished sinker cypress flooring. The aft bulkhead was then reinstalled, restoring Spencer Yachts’ custom mezzanine air conditioning.
Next, they prepared the bulkhead for Everett Nautical’s custom faux teak finish and assisted Everett with applying multiple coats of acrylic urethane as a protective finish. Our diesel technicians then lead a successful sea trial to finish out the project. By December 2020, the Saunders team was able to restore the 74’ Spencer Custom Yacht to its original state.
