Unveiling a Modern Classic

The latest boat from Duffie Boatworks, a custom sportfish builder based in Ocean City, Maryland, is a 70-footer, named Dem Boys. Hull number three from this relatively new builder combines classic Carolina styling, updated with thoroughly modern equipment. It’s a four stateroom, three head layout, and is powered by twin 2,400 hp, electronically controlled Caterpillar C- 32B diesels with ZF3070A 2.24:1 gears.

Engineered for Speed and Efficiency

The Cats provide a top speed of 43 knots, thanks to an extremely efficient hull design from Rhodes Yacht Design. Two 30kW Phasor generators provide more than enough electricity to run the boat’s numerous AC systems, which include things like a Seakeeper 26 gyroscopic stabilizer, plus an XZII 2200 watermaker, Eskimo ice machines and dual air conditioning units, all from Dometic. It comes with a built-in Spot Zero unit too. The boat also is equipped with a Furuno Omni sonar.

Advanced Navigational and Comfort Features

Seastar Optimus power steering makes driving the 70-footer virtually effortless, and chairs from Release Marine keep everyone comfortable. There’s a Release Trillion chair at the helm and an Unlimited Fighting Chair in the cockpit. A hardtop from Palm Beach Towers and 42-foot hydraulic Rupp triples spreader outriggers adorn the flybridge.

Craftsmanship and Interior Elegance

Like all Duffies, Dem Boys was built using cold-molded construction techniques and the finest materials available, such as Brynzeel plywood, Pro-set epoxies, Vector-ply fiberglass, and Awlgrip finishing systems. The boat’s beautiful interior features satin finished vertical grain teak, paired with SeaSmart hardware, and with modern soft goods.
