About the Opportunity

A private owner in Jupiter, Florida is seeking an exceptional Captain and Mate team for an 82-foot sportfish vessel. This is a unique opportunity for hands-on maritime professionals who take pride in their mechanical skills, versatility, and operational excellence. The family enjoys fishing both offshore and inshore waters and no tournaments. We’re looking for the right candidates who can handle every aspect of vessel operations with minimal oversight.

The vessel will be homeported in Jupiter with regular cruising to the Bahamas and Florida Keys. This is a full-time position with variable hours based on trip schedules, offering the right professionals competitive compensation and the chance to be part of a quality operation from the ground up.

Position Details

Captain Requirements:

– Minimum 100-ton USCG Captain’s License (required) with Good History
– Extensive hands-on mechanical skills and ability to troubleshoot and repair systems independently
– Proven experience with vessel maintenance, systems operation, and problem-solving
– Strong knowledge of Bahamas and Florida cruising grounds, anchorages, and local waters
– Experience with sport fishing operations preferred
– CPR certification (preferred)
-Must be able to commute to Jupiter, FL daily or willing to relocate

Mate Requirements:

– Extensive hands-on maintenance experience
– Multi-role capabilities including vessel upkeep, cleaning, and basic repairs
– Knowledge of diving, snorkeling, fishing operations
– Ability to assist captain with navigation and vessel operations
– Willingness to take on varied responsibilities as needed
– Must be able to commute to Jupiter, FL daily or willing to relocate

Additional Crew Consideration:

-Part-time third mate or stewardess with cooking skills may be added to the team

Key Responsibilities

Daily Operations:

– Comprehensive vessel maintenance and repairs (mechanical, electrical, plumbing, woodwork)
– Daily cleaning and upkeep of vessel kept at home location
– Trip planning and preparation for Bahamas and Keys cruises
– Navigation, anchoring operations, and seamanship
– Guest services including fishing, diving, and snorkeling activities

Schedule & Usage

– Full-time position with flexible daily hours
– Work typically begins in the morning with daily maintenance and preparation tasks
– Trip schedules provided weeks in advance
– Trips typically last up to one week
– Year-round but intermittent usage pattern
– Primary cruising: Bahamas and Florida Keys
– Anchoring preferred over docking (comfort and cost efficiency)
– Annual boatyard maintenance periods

Compensation & Benefits

– Highly competitive salary based on experience and skill level—we’re willing to pay for exceptional talent
– Captain compensation on the high end for truly outstanding candidates
– Structured as independent contractor position (responsible for own taxes)
– Paid Time Off: 2 weeks in first year, increasing to up to 5 weeks after 10 years of service
– No health insurance provided (contractor basis)
