Birds, Bait and Billfish: What Furuno Is Bringing to FLIBS

The run to the edge usually starts in the dark. The cockpit’s quiet, the rigs are ready, and the captain is already working on the question every offshore crew asks. Where do we start?

Furuno will help answer that at the 2026 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show, Oct. 28 through Nov. 1. The company is bringing its offshore fishing lineup to Bahia Mar, Booth #655. Here’s what anglers will find there, laid out the way a day on the water actually goes.

Reading the Water

Good fishing starts with structure. On Furuno’s TZtouchXL, TZ MAPS with BathyVision shows the bottom in color, with contour lines that can be set as fine as 3 inches. Adjustable Terrain Shading makes canyon walls, ledges and humps jump to life in 2D or 3D. Captains can see where the bottom drops before they get there and plan their attack accordingly.

Once the boat is offshore, Radar picks up the search. Furuno’s NXT Solid-State and X-Class Radars are built to track birds working bait with their easy-to-use Bird Mode. That gives the captain a direction to run. Pair either Radar with a NavPilot Autopilot, and the captain can hold course while the crew gets lines in the water.

Seeing What’s Below

Finding bait is one thing. Knowing what’s around it is another.

The CSH10 360° Scanning Sonar looks out as far as 900 meters in every direction from the boat. It runs at 85 kHz, a frequency suited to tracking fast-moving schools like tuna and billfish. With Furuno’s unique Sonar Overlay, live targets appear right on the BathyVision chart. A captain can watch a school move against the bottom contours on one screen.

The DFF3D Multibeam Sonar covers a 120° swath from port to starboard. Its Cross Section view shows bait, predators and conditions in the water column below. Crews can track fish in real time, right up to the boat.

Both units have built-in motion stabilization to keep the picture steady. Adding Furuno’s SCX20 Satellite Compass makes that stabilization even better. For crews who fish when it’s sloppy, that combination is worth a close look.

Fishing Deep

Daytime swordfishing happens a long way down. Crews regularly fish 1,500 to 2,000 feet to reach swords during daylight hours. That kind of fishing puts real demands on a Fish Finder.

The DFF3-UHD TruEcho CHIRP Fish Finder works with 1, 2 or 3 kW transducers. Captains can choose Low, Medium or High CHIRP bands from 25 to 242 kHz. For more output, the BT-5 Booster Box raises power to 5 or 10 kW.

Holding position matters as much as marking fish. Furuno’s Fish-It & Drift-It feature helps set the boat’s drift over a target in wind and current. Fewer resets mean more time with baits where the fish are located.

Spec sheets only go so far. Sonar is easier to judge when it’s on a screen in front of you.

The CSH10, DFF3D and DFF3-UHD will all be on display at Furuno’s booth, alongside the TZtouchXL. Visitors can talk with Furuno’s team about how each piece fits their own boat. Owners planning a winter refit or a new build can bring their questions and a photo of their helm.

Furuno will be at Bahia Mar, Booth #655, from Oct. 28 through Nov. 1, 2026. Can’t make it to Fort Lauderdale? Anglers can explore the full lineup and connect with a local Furuno dealer at navnet.com/ultimate-fishing.
