Position: Sportfishing Mate (Private Program)
Vessel: 72’ Merritt
Location: Pompano Beach, FL
Start Date: ASAP
A private family program is seeking a seasoned and professional Sportfishing Mate for a late-model 72’ Merritt. This is a hands-on role suited to a motivated individual with strong offshore fishing experience and a meticulous approach to vessel presentation and maintenance.
The program includes approximately 3–5 months of travel annually to premier sportfishing destinations. When not traveling, the vessel remains in South Florida, with a strong emphasis on ongoing maintenance, detailing, and occasional local day fishing.
The ideal candidate will be confident working as a single mate, capable of managing all aspects of deck operations, and committed to maintaining the vessel to an exceptional standard at all times.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all deck operations during fishing and travel
- Maintain vessel to a yacht-standard (10/10 condition at all times)
- Execute and assist with offshore fishing operations, including marlin, tuna, kite, sword, and bottom fishing
- Ensure all fishing equipment, tackle, and deck gear are organized and maintained
- Assist with trip preparation, provisioning, and post-trip breakdown
- Support owner and guests with a high level of professionalism and service
Candidate Requirements:
- Minimum 3+ years’ experience as a professional sportfishing mate
- Strong knowledge of offshore sportfishing techniques and equipment, including the use of dredges
- Based in Broward County or South Palm Beach County (within 30 miles of Pompano Beach, FL)
- Excellent presentation and communication skills
- Detail-oriented with a proactive work ethic
- Non-smoker
- Comfortable working independently as the single mate
